We're Moving...

There...
 I said it...

We're moving...
WE. ARE. MOVING...

to Colorado...

It's taken me awhile to get the courage to say this...
but it's for real now and it's time to share.

Last January when we were there visiting our oldest son and his wife,
I heard God whisper in my ear.
"You need to be here."
You meaning us...???

Sometimes God is so clear but it's hard to understand
the why?
the when?
the how?

God doesn't speak often to me but when He does I know it's Him.
So ever since January 2016 we have been wondering how this is actually going to happen?
We looked at a few homes to rent but once they heard about
how
many
children
 and
 how
 many
 pets
 we have...
 the door shut quickly.

Okay, I don't blame them.
I understand it's their investment and they want to protect it.
The thing is,
we take really good care of the home we are in.
We pay for the repairs, we replace what needs to be replaced and we maintain it.
But trying to tell someone this...
when all they can think of is...

"You have how many kids????"
(They immediately think of the movie "Cheaper By the Dozen"!)

Well... they just can't seem to get past our numbers!

We prayed and even began to change our minds.
Maybe I heard wrong???

So we decided to pray about it again and
just see if God would possibly clarify a few of the details...
like a house, for instance!?!

Okay Lord, if you want us to move, we will...
But Lord,
please provide a home for us to move to...

And once we surrendered the decision to Him...
we found a home three days later!

(insert fear and terror of packing, moving this extra large family-
which includes humans and pets,
while conveying no stress to children,
lest the pick up on it and chaos ensues...
and leaving everything I have ever known for 50 something years...
well the thought is just plain overwhelming...)

Breath Jean, just breath!

It's gonna work out.
It always does with God.
He's got this.
He's got a great plan
and "my job" is to work hard,
to care for the children (and educate them)
and to trust HIM through it all!

Hubby's job is in Colorado
and has been for the last 10 years or so.
It's an important and exciting time for his company.
We are tired of him traveling from MN to CO.
And no matter how much he travels to and from,
it's just not enough.

He needs to be there more often and
in closer proximity to his company.

So we are packing up this extra large family and giving it a try in Colorado.

Mixed feelings?
Oh ya...
OHHHHH YA!
Looking forward to it some days
and
wondering what the heck we are doing the other days.

This is actually only going to be a partial move
because
we plan to keep our home here for awhile.
Many families here in Mn have cabins.
This will be "our cabin" and we will spend part of the summer in MN
with it 15,000 lakes, abundant swimming pools and green as far as the eye can see!
We've lived in MN 50 something years and
we have three older sons here
so...
Let's face it,
it's home.

(I think this center island may work for our family!)

The good news is in Colorado we will be closer to son #1,
his wonderful wife and our grand daughter!

That's pretty great!
Like 10 miles down the road closer!
Babysitting closer!
Wait a second!
I'm talking about us babysitting our grand baby
not us dropping off 14 children at their house!
Hahaha!

Lot's happening with us right now!
All good!
Praise God!

We leave after Grace and Jacob are HOME in MN!
It will be a little confusing to them
but we have found that our new kiddos watch the others at home and follow along.

So please join us as we journey to Colorado!
I'm going to need your support!

Looking forward to meeting some new adoptive families
and homeschoolers in Colorado!
If you live in CO
PLEASE email me or message me!
FYI,
I am in desperate need of friends!

But just so you know, MN people
I used to be a brownie!
And I stand by the song-

"Make new friends
but keep the old
one is silver
but the other is gold!"

If you have any happy moving stories
please share them in the comments or on FB!
Or some advice for moving a very large family!

If you live in Colorado please share
what you like most about CO
and some fun things that you do with your family!

THANK YOU!!!

We have lived in Colorado for 20 years and love it. There is no humidity. There are much fewer bugs! There are 4 seasons. (Although sometimes mixed up, ha.) We love the mountains and deep blue sky.

We love going up to Echo Lake and eating pizza at Beaujo's in Idaho Springs. We love Garden of the Gods. We love Breckenridge and Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park. We love Broncos football and Rockies baseball. We love driving out of the city and taking photos of the beautiful scenery.

Can't wait to see you here! We will get together with all the kiddos! :)

We are from Colorado, (Tennessee now) but consider Colorado home. And yes, I pray all the time for the Lord to make me feel content where he has us planted now, because my heart yearns for home. You'll love it there.

We are just starting our adoption journey - prepping our dossier for our first adoption. :) We live in Centennial, south Denver suburbs. Where will you be living? Colorado is AMAZING. We have been here 11 years, and loved every moment of it. We don't have great snowman snow, but I'd say that's just about the only downside! It's so easy and FUN to be outdoors in any season.

We moved ten years ago from California. Colorado is amazing! The sunshine is the best. There is so much to do. You will love it. I know how you feel about leaving a place you lived for a long time. I lived for forty five years in California and still feel a big connection there, mainly because of family. I PM'd you.

Let's see, moving tips for a large family...

Pack dishes in linens so you have both essentials ready right away.

Have a plan for the first night or two, such as two backpacks per child, one with clothing essentials and one with toys, school materials, anything to keep them occupied and that plan to keep the occupied should be structured so they feel stability and know exactly what they should be doing right away. Perhaps having a make-shift school room set up right away, even just table and chairs so they know where they should be.

Have a pediatrician/urgent care all lined up in case of the unexpected.

Honestly, with the way you travel with them so well, I'm sure you'll know exactly what to do. With a move there's no way to avoid moments of chaos, but I'm sure they'll be fleeting.

Family friends moved to Colorado 20 plus years ago and love it. It will be nice to be closer to your husband's work. The older boys can always move to Colorado. Moving is always rough. Hire movers to pack and unpack for you. Life is an adventure.

WOW!!!And you moved to current house just at adoption time, too, didn't you? Brave woman!
DH had wanted to move to a farm for several years, I took about 3 more to convince. We moved to our farm 2 years and feel sooooo blessed to be here! Lots of changes and lots of work, but we all love it.
I pray your new adventure goes as smoothly as possible.

Hooray! We live in CO :) My DH is a native, lucky, and I'm almost a native. Been here for "awhile". There are so many things we love about our home state. Right now we are enjoying the gorgeous Autumn weather we've been having. So much sunshine and blue sky. The trees haven't hit peak yet here on the Front Range, but I watch with bated breath! I'd love to email you, but I cannot figure it out. What link am I looking for?!

My very, very favorite thing about CO is NO HUMIDITY! ;p

Wow! So exciting! Our family would love to welcome your family to this beautiful state and your new home. We live in Parker which is southeast of Denver. There is a great Catholic homeschooling group in the Denver area. I'll leave my email so we can help get you "in the loop". Let us know what we can do to make your transition smooth. Your family is a beautiful witness to the world, thank you!

that's awesome that you're moving to Colorado, but what's even more awesome is that you heard God speaking to you about it! I just love that, His direct guidance!!! praying that everything goes smoothly and that you'll see all his amazing signs that He's planted for you so that you know that you are in His way :) I used to live in Colorado, in Colorado Springs, we moved down to California to look after my father in law (Alzheimers). They have nice trampoline places (for kids), delicious Rudy's BBQ and Grill... hmmm we haven't been out and about really that much! haha

I wish we lived in CO. I'd be your friend. :)

This family http://smilesandtrials.blogspot.com with 18 kids, just moved from CA to TX. They drove 3 moving vans . . . towing 2 cars . . . and driving two vans/suburbans full of kids. :) We met them on one of our cross country road trips, too.

Blessings to you all!

We live in Michigan, but go to Colorado quite frequently. My husband's business partner is in Arvada. Our two children (also adopted from China) attended an awesome horse camp there last summer and we plan to have them go back again next summer. Our friends run the camp. I can send more information if it is in your area.
